Annual General Meeting
A
Report on the AGM of Resolfen History Society
The annual general meeting of any organisation is
notorious for a low attendance, however this did not prove the case on Monday
10th September since nineteen members attended the Society’s AGM.
The meeting, which kicks off the History Society’s
thirtieth year started on a sad note by noting the passing of Robert Norton and
more recently John Rees during the last year. Bob had been one of the few life
members of the Society and John’s contribution had also been immense, in many facets of the social life of the village.
Officials and committee were elected and it was very
pleasing to see new members joining the committee, which now stands at:
President: Phylip Jones
Chairman: Gwyn Thomas
Vice Chair: Jim Kent
Treasurer: Julie Hicks
Secretary: Trefor Jones
General Committee: Brenda Oakes, Mary Evans, Val
Davies, Jean Thomas and Paul Minton.
Following an encouraging financial report the
meeting then discussed the future direction of the Society and ways of
promoting its activities. One of the avenues discussed was to renew our monthly reports in the Courier. This has now been arranged and hopefully will result in renewed good attendances at meetings.
Next month’s speaker on Monday October 8th
at the Church Hall will be Mr John Richards who will speak on the history of
Neath Castle.
